Yuri Svyatoslav's elder brother, a participant in the campaign on Volga Bulgaria in 1220, died before his father, and Yuri inherited the Principality of Murom reign in 1228.
In 1229 and 1232, Yuri participated in the campaigns of the Grand Prince of Vladimir-Suzdal Yuri Vsevolodovich against the Mordvins.
In the autumn of 1237, when the Mongols approached the southern borders of the Principality of Ryazan, the Princes of Murom as well as the Princes of Ryazan, entered the Battle of Voronezh River. Also during the invasion, Yuri's cousin, Oleg Yuryevich, an outcast prince, participant in a campaign against the Volga Bulgarians in 1220, was killed.
