Death has removed from amongst us, at the ripe age of 85 years, another old identity in the person of the late Mr William Sternbeck, of Upper McDonald.
The end came unexpectedly, and with a suddenness that was pathetic. The old gentleman, having been all his life a very industrious farmer, was husking corn and chopping wood a few hours previous to his demise on Friday last. A sudden indisposition caused some anxiety, and his sons and daughters, most of whom were living only a few miles away were made aware of their father's condition, and although they made all possible haste to his side, he was unable to recognise any of them, and it was painfully apparent that the end was not far off. Dr Bapty, of Wollombi, was sent for, but before the arrival of the messenger at Wollombi Mr Sternbeck had passed away.
