Biography

William Samuel Brownlow was born 26 October 1857 in Binda, New South Wales, Australia to John Brownlow (1838-1867) and Isabella Fraser (1832-1920) and died 9 May 1877 Green Camp Creek, Binda, New South Wales, Australia of crushed by falling tree.

The Binda correspondent of the Gouburn Herald writes:—On Thursday last Mr. Marsden, Coroner, held an inquest near Binda on the body of a young man named William Brownlow, aged about nineteen, who was killed the previous day under the following circumstances: It appears that at a place called Green Camp Creek a man named Josiah Eldridge; assisted by a lad about fourteen named William McDonald, was engaged in putting up a fence for Mr. Alexander Webster, when the deceased came and assisted them for about two hours with the fencing, and then proceeded to cut down a tree about 2ft. 9in. in diameter. He cut it about half through when, being a leaning one, it fell, splitting up the centre and leaving the butt resting on the splintered portion about five feet from the ground. Deceased then commenced to cut away where the tree was resting, and while so doing it fell on to him across his chest. He did not speak and on Eldridge and the boy, who were close at hand, running up to him they found he was already dead. Assistance was obtained and the tree removed. The verdict of the jury was accidental death and that no blame attached to anyone.
