William John Chaseling was born 1880 in Newtown, New South Wales, Australia to Joshua Watsford Chaseling (1842-1894) and Mary Ann Hull (1844-1923) and died 17 May 1942 Sydney Hospital, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Gertrude May Peterson (1888-1964) 15 March 1910 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. W. J. Chaseling honorary secretary of the Newtown Rugby League Club for 32 years died at Sydney Hospital late on Sunday night. He leaves a widow and son.
Mr. Chaseling was returning from the Canterbury-Bankstown-Newtown match at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon when he collapsed.
The late Mr Chaseling played as the wing three-quarter but it was as an administrator that he was best known. He played a big part in building the Rugby league code to its present dominant position. He was a member of the management commitiee.
Mr Chaseling was connected with the Railway Department. He was 62 years of age.
