Biography

Valerian Brecht was born 8 January 1844 in Rheinsheim, Baden, Germany to Bernard Brecht (1795-1863) and Katherine Horeweddel (1801-) and died 26 May 1897 of unspecified causes. He married Mary A. Gossman (-1875) 15 January 1871 in Morgan County, Ohio, United States. He married Mary A. Shue (-) 18 April 1876 in Coshocton, Ohio, United States.

VALERIAN BRECHT, Franklin township; farmer; postoffice, Wills Creek, Ohio; born Jan. 5, 1845, in Baden, Germany; son of Benhart and Catherine (Harwidel) Brecht, natives of Baden, Germany. They emigrated to America in 1854, bringing their family with them, and located near Adamsville, Muskingum county. The father was born in 1799, and died in 1862. The mother was born in 1801, and died in 1867. Valerian, the subject of this sketch, began life for himself as a hired hand on a farm, but by economy and industry, he has obtained a good farm. Mr. Brecht was married first to Miss Mary A., daughter of Solomon and Bridget (Rodenburger) Gossman. They became the parents of two children, William Solomon and Annie Varonica. Their mother died July 1, 1875. Mr. Brecht married April 18, 1876, Miss Mary A., daughter of George and Elizabeth (Lash) Shue, natives of France. (Source)
