Discussion of adsEdit

The following interesting exchange regarding ads is from "Central":

I like what I understand you're trying to do. I hope you can gradually eliminate the chance that we might see an ad that takes over the background and has a banner four or more times the standard size so that less than two lines of page content is visible!

Is it really still impossible at present for you to set an absolute limit to the amount of screen an ad can take up?

22 days ago by Robin Patterson

We'll talk about this more in tomorrow's blog too, but background ads and large ads like the ones you described are here to stay. Those are important parts of direct ad business, and they will help us remove many of the other ad units that clutter the page.
The aim is to focus more on the holistic page experience. We feel that if a user has to see a large ad, they should not have to see seven others on the same page. These kind of controls are things that we've been putting into place this past year, and that will continue into this year as well.
Ultimately, this is a scenario where everyone can benefit. The high-end advertisers that bring in a lot of revenue don't want to have their ads next to the lower-quality programmatic ones, and would prefer to be the only ad on the page. We can bring in more revenue from that, allowing us to clean up the ad experience in general. That, in turn, gives a more premium look to communities (plus better page performance) where they don't have to be cluttered with junky ads that can drive away readers and contributors.

Tony PiazziEdit

Dear Administrator Robin, how are you and your family ? I trust that everything is fine, dear administrator, I beg for your help in order to delete the photos below due to a Tony Piazzi's family request.

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Lindabaxter (talkcontribs)

I have deleted several versions from this wiki, but I wonder why a perfectly pleasant-looking photo of a deceased person, which was presumably legally uploaded and therefore available for anyone to use, should now be deleted. Which member(s) of his family have requested the deletion? (I could point out that we know of no close members of his family except the woman he is said to have married, and we know very little about her.) -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:44, February 12, 2017 (UTC)

Tony Piazzi is a living person.

Dear Robin Patterson, I would like to reinforce Tony Piazzi family request to exclude his familypedia page and all the photos and links, due to massive vandalism which is harming his family image, I also learned with the family that although Tony Piazzi had a car accident in 2015, he is still alive, he is still a living person, so it has been a false statement declare his death date on the headlines.

Dear Robin Patterson, We are asking for your help to put an end on this misunderstood.

Linda Baxter 18:04, March 2, 2017 (UTC)

Linda, you yourself told us that he had passed away - So that was a "false statement"? Please say what aspects of his page represent vandalism and please provide a link to an online record of his accident and survival. Please also answer my above question "Which member(s) of his family have requested the deletion?" -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:46, March 5, 2017 (UTC)

A difficult person to deal with.Edit

The so called Administrator Robin Patterson is a difficult person to deal with, I tried for several times to contribute with the page (Tony Piazzi), but without success, the administrator blocks anyone who attempts to edit on the page, my solicitor in England is trying to get in touch with the Wikia staff in order to comunicate the abuse.

Mimosos (talk) 18:32, March 4, 2017 (UTC)

Well, Mimosos, the history of your contributions to this wiki is at and it shows no edits to Tony's page. You did rename the page in a manner that was clearly contrary to the wiki's naming standards, and I reverted to the preferred name. Maybe you also edited "anonymously"? How are you connected to Tony or his family? -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:46, March 5, 2017 (UTC)

This discussion should now be confined to the article's talk page, where some of the above comments seem to be duplicated. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 06:48, March 5, 2017 (UTC)

Tony Piazzi wikia deletionEdit

Dear Robin, I made a mistake but I am trying to correct it, I am Tony Piazzi's wife cousin and as you can check I was the first person to create and edit Tony Piazzi wikia page.

Tony Piazzi's wife Jessica has just sent a facebook invitation for you, in order to explain everything and you can also talk to Tony personally by video chat.

Dear Robin, I created and edited Tony piazzi's page, because jessica his wife asked me to do so, my knowledge on computer is small, but what we really want for now is the deletion of the page.

Linda Baxter 17:24, March 6, 2017 (UTC)

Linda, I have accepted Jessica's invitation. She has responded briefly but without any reference to Tony's article. She is welcome to explain more. I'm not keen to have the page deleted, because Tony is clearly a public figure. He has even been photographed shaking hands with Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom. I'll ask you again: what parts of his article represent vandalism or untruth? -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 20:55, March 9, 2017 (UTC)

Robin please correctEdit

Dear Robin, you can keep Tony Piazzi's page if you wish, but let me only correct a citation which says ( 1961 - 2015 ),this is the untruth part of the article, it means that he is a dead person, this numbers are distroying my reputation.

Linda Baxter 16:20, March 14, 2017 (UTC)

Done. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 22:46, March 14, 2017 (UTC)

Massasoit Ousamequin (c1581-1661)Edit

Hi Robin - I got locked out of just this one page while in the middle of creating this page for the famous Indian chieftain of Plymouth Colony. Massasoit Ousamequin (c1581-1661). And he has family members that I can link to using the SMW template. I seem to have normal access for all other pages. MainTour (talk) 04:18, March 8, 2017 (UTC)

Curious. And some formidable-looking code. Page tells me it's still locked, but I can edit other wikia pages. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 20:46, March 9, 2017 (UTC)
Still the same. I tried to create a different page using just the coding in the free text area but it comes out looking much the same. Nothing in that box looks bad. Let's call in the big guns! -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 23:04, March 14, 2017 (UTC)
Yes, that was the best plan. Miracle-worker strikes again. Try now! -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:43, March 15, 2017 (UTC)

Hmmmm - a much descended person! I sometimes wonder what "Gateway" means. I actually said "I hope we have some of your ancestry here; if not, there's no time like the present! ". You could check how many of those ancestors already have articles here. User:MainTour probably recognizes many of them. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 06:48, April 23, 2017 (UTC)

Tony Piassi updateEdit

Dear Robin, if there wasn't any vandalism on Tony Piazzi's article, why did you protect the article ?

As the article creator, why am I not alowed to update the article ?

Linda Baxter 11:09, April 23, 2017 (UTC)

There seemed to be some vandalism. I have just checked the article. It is fully protected from moving (= renaming), but the protection for editing excludes only new and unregistered users. Any logged-in user should be able to edit it if they have been registered for as long as you have. If you have a problem with it, please tell me exactly what happens. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:31, April 24, 2017 (UTC)

ANcestry of Frances Herbert Edit

I would like to check your views on the ancestry of Frances Herbert (1775-1830), since you say that her descent from Henry VII is questionable. I see we have at present (at least) two lines of descent here, as follows:

Henry VII of England (1457-1509)
Elizabeth of York (1465-1503)
Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk (c1484-1545)
Mary Tudor (1496-1533)
Henry VIII of England (1491-1547)
Mary Boleyn (1503-1543)
Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Suffolk (1517-1554)
Frances Brandon (1517-1559)
Francis Knollys (c1511-1596)
Catherine Carey (1524-1569)
Edward Seymour, 1st Earl of Hertford (1539-1621)
Catherine Grey (c1540-1567)
Walter Devereux, 1st Earl of Essex (1539-1576)
Lettice Knollys (1543-1634)
Edward Seymour, Lord Beauchamp (1561-1612)
Honora Rogers (-1608)
Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland (1564-1632)
Dorothy Devereux (1564-1619)
Francis Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of Trowbridge (c1590-1664)
Frances Prinne (1592-1626)
Algernon Percy, 10th Earl of Northumberland (1602-1668)
Elizabeth Howard (bef1629-1705)
Charles Seymour, 2nd Baron Seymour of Trowbridge (c1621-1665)
Elizabeth Alington (c1635-1691)
Josceline Percy, 11th Earl of Northumberland (1644-1670)
Elizabeth Wriothesley (1646-1690)
Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset (1662-1748)
Elizabeth Percy (1667-1722)
William Wyndham (1687-1740)
Catherine Seymour (c1693-1731)
Charles Wyndham, 2nd Earl of Egremont (1710-1763)
Alicia Maria Carpenter (c1726-1794)
Henry Herbert, 1st Earl of Carnarvon (1741-1811)
Elizabeth Alicia Maria Wyndham (1752-1826)
Frances Herbert (1775-1830)

Certainly the line on the right-hand side through Elizabeth Percy (1667-1722) depends on a questionable assumption about the paternity of Catherine Carey (1524-1569), but I think that the line on the left-hand side through Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset (1662-1748) is generally accepted. In particular, this is the version I see from Paul Therroff (see "Descendants of King Henry VII" Part_h8 and front page). Do you agree, or do you doubt some other link?

(N.B. I can't be sure I haven't made an error creating the diagram).

Can you help me unlock the page John Bigelow - i Want to change it from a redirect to a disambiguation page - there are lots of noteworthy people of that name. Thx. MainTour (talk) 14:15, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

As a redirect matching a Wikipedia name, it stays as is, and there was already a John Bigelow (disambiguation), which I have updated a little. I have updated the page that matches WP so that it links to the disambig. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 06:08, July 27, 2017 (UTC)

He was my father.

My mother was Evelyn Martha (Shaw) Munsil.

They had seven children:

  • Martha May (Munsil) Patterson
  • Marilyn Sue (Munsil) Stout - deceased
  • Joanne Evelyn (Munsil) Burnett
  • Lee Elverton Munsil, Jr - twin to Lois
  • Lois Elvira (Munsil) (Kelly) (Schooley) Hunt - twin to Lee, Jr
  • William Walden Munsil - yours truly
  • Wesley Elwood Munsil

My grandparentsEdit

  • Marion Elwood Munsil
  • Martha Lois (Kellie) (Munsil) Peterson - She went by Lois Munsil
  • Rolin Wesley Shaw
  • Elvira Susan (Wing) Shaw - birth name Susan A Wing

My mother was NOT married twice.

Her sister Elvira Ellen Shaw was married to Russell Lassey.

EoGuy (talk) 17:35, August 13, 2017 (UTC)

OK, so the Wing file omits your mother. Clearing up now. But can you clarify your grandmother's "Elvira" and what was the "A" in her birth name?- -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 03:54, August 14, 2017 (UTC)

Empty categories - Year in nationEdit

Dear Robin,

I like the idea of linking the biodata with the dates/place categories. That would mean that if we have an article for a person X which was born in 1322 in Scotland, was married in 1344 in the Netherlands and died in 1399 in Italy those events should be mentioned in that category. It would require modifying the template showfacts person to create automatic links to that category. I am not sure I am able to do it, but if you think it is worth it I can give it a try.

Andrei Afil (talk) 18:55, August 15, 2017 (UTC)

I feel that you are making it more difficult than necessary. Our bdm pages needed no alteration to "showfacts person". It should be only a little more complex than those, needing both a nation and a year instead of just a nation (or smaller area). I'll start Forum:Events of year in nation now, so as to invite more proficient coders to help. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 21:42, August 15, 2017 (UTC)
Please respond to me in Forum:Events of year in nation: I don't think your template should be on the category page, it should be on a content page (like the existing bdm subpages). Thurstan (talk) 22:19, August 15, 2017 (UTC)

Mary Ann Price Edit

Can you help me fix a page for Mary Ann Price (1815-1897). (Wife of John Solomon Fullmer (1807-1883)) The Wikia is not letting me save her data. She is my G-G-G-G-Aunt. MainTour (talk) 00:09, October 4, 2017 (UTC)

Seems to be something wrong or changed. Instead of the usual invitation to search for the page or create it, I get :
"The database did not find the text of a page that it should have found, named "Mary Ann Price (1815-1897)" .
"This is usually caused by following an outdated diff or history link to a page that has been deleted.
"If this is not the case, you may have found a bug in the software. Please report this to Wikia staff, making note of the URL. "
I'll poke around a bit. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:39, October 4, 2017 (UTC)
Definitely summat odd. Clicking on her name in John's infobox I get the expected form with the warning "Warning: This page already exists, but it does not use this form." and a bit of data filled in, so I add a bit and try to publish and I get "Modifying Mary Ann Price (1815-1897) failed." -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:47, October 4, 2017 (UTC)
I've just published an ordinary new SMW person, so it's not a general wikia fault. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:11, October 4, 2017 (UTC)
It would seem to me that the next thing to try is deletion of the page, but maybe we should take our cue from the message and report it to Wikia staff. (Question: was the page known to exist already? Who created it and what was on it?) -- Thurstan (talk) 03:40, October 4, 2017 (UTC)
Dead silence was the stern reply. I have deleted the page (whatever it was) and recreated it without problem. Thurstan (talk) 21:26, October 8, 2017 (UTC)

Doesn't work Edit

I see looking at the mother of Mary Nelme (1653-1728), and the parents of Mieszko I Tanglefoot of Poland (c1130-1211) (compare the infobox to the minibio) that the "formredlink" keyword is another promise that SMW makes and does not keep. I wouldn't recommend this software to my worst enemy! Looks like I will need another version of {{Showfacts person}} Thurstan (talk) 22:52, December 22, 2017 (UTC)

I have looked at that mother and one of those parents. Apart from the infobox redlink, which is underpromising but overperforming (and not unknown under the previous regime - normal the first time I return to a page from which I have started a parent page), I can't see a problem. I've not checked what promises "formredlink" makes. If you feel that there is a real problem, how about putting it to the gurus on the mailing list? They may agree and be able to fix it. ---- Robin Patterson (Talk) 00:40, December 23, 2017 (UTC)
The problem is that it shouldn't be a red link, and if re-saving all the pages doesn't fix it, it is a bug. I have zero faith in the "gurus" behind this project, I am afraid, so I am not interested in talking to them. I will revert to previous coding when I get a chance. Help! Trying incorporate the {{Chart}} into a wikia. Edit

I'd been using the {{Family tree}} on this wiki. However, my family trees have become a bit too complex for the {{Family tree}} template and I wanted to convert to the {{Chart}} template which seems to support larger diagrams but I'm having importing the template to the wiki. I typically just copy and paste but that doesn't seem to be working this time. It was recommended that I speak with you because of your expertise. Is there anyone you can help me? Nk3play2 my buzz 17:51, January 13, 2018 (UTC)

I doubt if I have ever used that template apart from including it in pages copied from Wikipedia. But if our version works here it should work on any wikia. Can you describe what goes wrong in the "copy and paste"? -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 08:51, January 14, 2018 (UTC)
The error I'm getting is "Script errorScript errorScript error." It appears in big bold red letters, and when I click the letters it says in fine print "Script error: No such module." --Nk3play2 my buzz 20:29, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
Ah! That could be Lua. Our User:Thurstan knows 50 times as much about that as I do. But the help page may be enough; please try it first. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:03, January 19, 2018 (UTC)
Or you could just copy our version (with all its subpages) rather than the Wikipedia version. Thurstan (talk) 02:34, January 19, 2018 (UTC)

Since Wikipedia is banning and removing links to Wikidata for people that do not appear with a full article in Wikipedia. No links to Wikidata for red linked people. --Richard Arthur Norton (talk) 21:12, February 5, 2018 (UTC)

Please delete these pages that I created Edit

Thank you, I do not want pages of my family members on the internet. That’s what I said. (Please don’t talk to me.) 21:50, February 21, 2018 (UTC)

If they are factual, there's no good reason for Wikia to lose the pages, and his relatives may be pleased to see them. He won't answer my question to him, so I'm not proceeding. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 10:40, March 19, 2018 (UTC)

Hartford Genealogy Wikia Edit

I have just noticed your links to "Hartford Genealogy Wikia", which should be relevant to a lot of the pages I have been creating lately. Is this Wiki defunct? Should we import all of its pages? Thurstan (talk) 03:10, April 9, 2018 (UTC)

"Defunct" could be a bit strong, but gives an indication of recent inactivity by its one real contributor/founder. Curiously, shows no recent changes in 999 days. But there is some good material there. Over 200 uncategorized articles, for example.
I've just written a message to the founder: Incidentally, our New England expert could be even more interested than you are.
Thanks for the reminder. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 05:36, April 9, 2018 (UTC)

Joseph A. McCallum (1955) - does he belong here? Edit

There was an article about Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins (1957- ) posted by Mr. Richard Arthur Norton, which included information about several people, i.e. Joseph A. McCallum, Anibal Ramos Jr. and John Sharpe James. They all seem to be working in New Jersey.

As posting all the information regarding several people under the title of a single one of them seemed not to make any sense, I just fragmented Mr. Norton's information into separate articles for each of the persons involved. This is the only contribution I had. However I have no additional information about these persons, and I don't think the information is taken from Wikipedia (anyway, I was not able to identify anything similar in Wikipedia).

As this is my only contribution, I have objection to processing or deleting the article, and if I was wrong, by reassembling all these separate articles in a single article (as they were submitted before). I only consider that, logically, any decision taken should be the same for all the four articles in this category. Afil (talk) 02:00, April 27, 2018 (UTC)

I have forgotten the details, but your separating of the article into pieces for each person seems like a reasonable approach. I will view those articles and see if anything else comes to mind. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:44, April 27, 2018 (UTC)

Showfacts residences Edit

If you are going to work on {{Showfacts residences}}, could you please create a test version, perhaps {{Showfacts residences test}}, and work on that. Otherwise, every time you edit {{Showfacts residences}}, the Wiki servers will recompute the thousands of pages that use this template, causing unnecessary load. When everyone is happy that {{Showfacts residences test}} is working properly, it can be transferred to {{Showfacts residences}}. (sorry, putting on my "IT professional" hat here). Thurstan (talk) 00:56, May 8, 2018 (UTC)

No worries, cobber! Template:Showfacts residences-trial has been around for a wee bit. And I have just rediscovered Form:Residences. (I'm glad you've got that hat!) -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:23, May 8, 2018 (UTC)

Administrator Request Edit

Hello. I am applying for the administrator position. I have a lot of experience editing Wikis and enforcing rules. I edit Wikipedia a lot, and when my kids were in elementary school, I spent a year working as a lunch/recess monitor. I have the confidence that I can handle the administrator position. Thank you for reading my request. Emen383 (talk) 22:06, August 5, 2018 (UTC)

Robert Mulley (1883-1917) Edit

I have just created a page for Robert Mulley (1883-1917), who was from New South Wales, but apparently served with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force during World War I. His date of death is that of the First Battle of Passchendaele, but I don't see much about him in the Australian records online. Do you know any New Zealand records (corresponding to our War Memorial records) which might say more about him? Thurstan (talk) 03:35, November 6, 2018 (UTC)

New contributor from the NetherlandsEdit

Hello Robin,

I’m from the Netherlands. I have a very extensive family tree in MyHeritage, but I think it is more fun and sensible to build a singular worldwide family tree within the same environment. Therefore I started to insert my family records in Wikitree and now also in Familypedia.

I am new and still unfamiliar with Familypedia. I now have two challenges, which perhaps you could help me further.

  • I have changed the name of one of my first pages in Godfried van Leuven-Gaasbeek (1209-1254) (there was an error in the name) and lost in the proces the references to the subpages /tree and /descendants ? How can I solve this?
  • The following syntax doesn’t work on Familypedia. What should I change?

(Richard Goossens (talk) 11:36, December 1, 2018 (UTC))

Hello, Richard! I too have some material on MyHeritage, Geni, and WikiTree but this is my favourite. You must have been busy to get back several centuries here so soon. Do you know that it is slightly easier to do a child's page before its parents' pages because several fields in the parent forms get filled automatically?
Renaming pages - maybe you did not tick the "Rename subpages" box? So you may have to move the subpages individually. Just as well there are only two! You may then need to republish the sensor page then the article so that all link properly. OR - maybe just refreshing/updating the sensor page and then the article if you did rename the subpages? Tell me if any problem and I will look at them. I may look at them anyway just for interest.
For the language template, compare with mine - you may need to use "Babel" instead of "Languages". And on Wikia we tend to use only three numbers. Oh - and I think the "nl" needs something after it, but a check with mine should clarify it all.

Carolingians Edit

I notice some correspondence lately about one Alpaida. I notice that you have been playing in that space already, and Wikipedia seems to think that Alpaida (794-) is the same person as Alpais (793-855). Thurstan (talk) 07:57, December 4, 2018 (UTC)

I think my recent involvement was merely to commend the critic on his vigilance and to suggest that we ask Mr Tol to provide more documentation. --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 10:02, December 6, 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, I saw your name and the wonky footnote formatting on Alpais (793-855) and assumed that you had written the notes. I see with a closer look at the history that you did not. Thurstan (talk) 18:52, December 6, 2018 (UTC)

Another mysterious fix Edit

I see that clicking on the red-links in the person infobox now pre-fills the form. I don't remember where the discussion of the failure of this feature is. Thurstan (talk) 04:09, January 9, 2019 (UTC)

Parent names have performed like that for some years. There have probably been glitches but I don't remember them; try under Help Desk. Spouse links pre-fill marriage details (and I think I mistakenly wasted some of your time querying some related matter). What exactly are you saying now? --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 04:17, January 9, 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, I am saying it had stopped working: mentioned in Forum:Spouse name in infobox should lead to form and initially in the second heading of Forum:Problem when creating parent pages. The mangling of the URL has now stopped: I thought I noticed that it was still happening just a few months ago. I remember telling you that clicking on the link from "Preview" worked. Thurstan (talk) 04:24, January 9, 2019 (UTC)
I'm glad your memory is so often better than mine. You can remember things from 13 months ago - such as - and with far fewer intervening edits I should be able to. OK, so the parent redlinks now do what they should without needing preview? That's great! Probably thanks to you. I'll try to remember to update relevant help pages if I come across any that need it. --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 05:27, January 9, 2019 (UTC)

2022 Pop Music Groups Edit

Looks like we have a major dispute to be arbitrated on Familypedia. User:Maboyce716 has created a several pages for pop music groups "established in 2022". To me this smacks of science fiction and should not be allowed here. I've asked already several times for documentation and none has been provided. Please advise. MainTour (talk) 21:52, February 27, 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. I deleted the obviously untrue bits in one. --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 03:20, March 4, 2019 (UTC)

Downloading images seems to be turned off, when did this happen? When I try to download an image I uploaded my only option is a webpage option not the original jpg or png. --Richard Arthur Norton (talk) 00:20, March 4, 2019 (UTC)

Images are a bit of a mystery to me. Sorry, I have no idea why you may have that problem. --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 03:20, March 4, 2019 (UTC)

Another SMW pagename bug Edit

This morning I was looking at the page for Property:Killer, and I notice that the "browse interface" often doesn't work. A section of the listing looks like:

Adalbert II von Ballenstedt (c1030-c1080) + Egeno II. von Konradsburg (?-?) +

Erik of Sweden (1282-1318) + Birger of Sweden (1280-1321) +

Waldemar of Sweden (c1280-1318) + Birger of Sweden (1280-1321) +

Bernard of Italy (797-818) + Louis the Pious (778-840) +

Louis I de Chiny (?-1025) + Gothelon I de Lorraine (c967-1044) +

If we click on the "+" signs in the left-hand column, we get a "fact box" for the page specified, which seems to be designed behaviour. However, clicking on the "+" signs in the right-hand column should search for pages with the matching property value, which certainly works for "Egeno II. von Konradsburg (?-?)". However the ones for "Birger of Sweden (1280-1321)" and "Gothelon I de Lorraine (c967-1044)" give an error message: "Birger of Sweden (128021)" cannot be used as a page name in this wiki, and an invalid search value, while the one for "Louis the Pious (778-840)" generated a blank search value, and just give a list of all pages with the property set.

Thurstan (talk) 03:24, March 5, 2019 (UTC)

Well, I'm not sure whether I have ever looked at Property:Killer or would want to, so you may be preaching to the unconverted and unaffected - but maybe this apparent problem has wider application? And why would "1280-1321" get reported as "128021" - maybe "-13" is an ASCII code? Incidentally, why can I not see fact boxes on sensor pages any more? --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 05:09, March 7, 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, "Killer" was a simple example (and the page I was looking at): I am sure that it will behave the same way if you look at "Father", "Mother" and any of the other properties which have person pages with values. You wondered why? It looks like they use "-" as an escape character to code for special characters, and so they have to code "-" itself, which codes as "-2D". The bug seems to be that they code "John of England (1167-1216)" as "John-20of-20England-20(1167-2D1216)", but when they come to decode it, they don't decode "-2D12" as "-12", they decode it as the unicode character whose hex value is "2D12". Thurstan (talk) 05:59, March 7, 2019 (UTC)
I'm pleased that I saw that the hyphen might be part of a code. But does this quirk affect what the properties do, or can we just tell readers not to try to use the plus signs? ----- Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:53, March 7, 2019 (UTC)
I suspect that it only affects that particular function: even the "+"s on the left work, it is only the ones on the right that are broken. Thurstan (talk) 20:55, March 7, 2019 (UTC)
Let's hope so. Meanwhile, I have created Help:Search by property and you may improve it or not. --- Robin Patterson (Talk) 10:16, March 9, 2019 (UTC)

Please delete these pages (LegoAdam324) Edit

Hi Robin, many thanks for your welcome back. I'm still relearning a few things so may have some questions in due course to make sure I'm getting things right. Look forward to it! Cv-s (talk) 08:44, March 2, 2020 (UTC)

Quick question Edit

Does this constitute "spamming external links"? Thurstan (talk) 21:02, November 13, 2020 (UTC)

No more than our thousands of links to commercial genealogy sites! I'm going to create a proper article for Everleigh Rose Smith Soutas (2012-). ----- Robin Patterson (Talk) 00:12, November 14, 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. I was worried that is was another "celeberity fan" posts with no genealogical content or initerest. Thurstan (talk) 21:44, November 14, 2020 (UTC)

Thank's I Would Like Some More info on my great grandpa

Robin Patterson,

I just recently created a profile. After creating it I received this notification..."Your email address hasn't been confirmed. There should be a confirmation message in your inbox. If you need us to send a new one, please click here. If you need to change your email, head to your Preferences page."

When I follow the link it asks me to sign in again. Once I add my username and password, it states that it does not recognize my username. It states this..."We don't recognize these credentials. Your username may have been changed as a result of login system changes, adding -fduser or -gpuser as a suffix. Try again or register a new account."

I tried doing what it said and it did not work.

Please help

Alfa template =Edit

I would welcome any comments on the alfa template I have developed, which can be included in the pages of any school and link it to the pages of all the alumni, faculty or educators.
