Sasha Kopf's Celtic knot ring

Haeremai, welcome, talofa, Willkommen, bienvenue, welkom[]

Hello, and welcome to Familypedia, the Genealogy wiki! We volunteers hope you can continue making contributions to articles and/or discussion and other improvements. Probably nobody has yet looked at your first edit. It is live already, but it may soon be reviewed by one of our more experienced editors.

If you are new to Wikia or wikis in general, a visit to Help:ypes of help will be well worth while.

However, all intending contributors, even those experienced with wikis, will get something of value from Help:ypes of help because our "Help" pages are much more than an editing guide.

To start right in creating pages for your ancestors or other people, we strongly urge at least one read of the guidance page so that you get the best setup for easy linking and time-saving.

You could check out the "Community portal" for an outline of some of the main features, links to pages that tell you how to edit, and the link to a guided tour of selected pages that illustrate ways you may enjoy using the site.

A good place to start each visit is the "recent changes" page, where all edits and their authors (anonymous or signed-in) are listed. Bookmark it, maybe. (And help delete spam - unpleasant but a fact of life.)

Please consider adding a "Babel" template to your User page, if you have not already done so, so that others know which languages you are comfortable reading. The site is basically in English but there's no prohibition on other languages. We already have, for example, over 100 kB in Spanish, dozens of pages in French, and a little Russian and Norwegian, with easy ways of linking languages.

If you live in New Zealand, you are invited to add your name to Category:Contributors of New Zealand by adding [[Category:Contributors of New Zealand|{{PAGENAME}}]] to your User page (including the brackets). And if your fortune lies elsewhere, you may create a corresponding category for your country unless there is one already. See Category:Contributors.

Please discuss any aspect of the site, or ask questions, at the Forum or on the "Talk"/discussion page associated with each article. Sign and date your contributions there, so that readers know "who to talk to" and whether your message is probably still of current interest. If you write on a user's "talk" page, that user may get an alerting message on their next visit to any Wikia.

I and others would like to know how you discovered this site.

I see that you made a contribution about 3 years ago. Apologies for what was probably a short-term defect in our welcoming-system.

Uploading GEDCOMS[]

Please upload your 7700 folks one at a time and/or help us find a way to automate the process a little. See Forum:Regarding importing GEDCOM data.

HIstorical documents[]

G'day, I am sure your heart is in the right place, but I am not sure the prerformance review will let you retain the professorship. On the page Joseph Cheney (1726-1810) you have changed "the N end of sd house" to "the N end of sod house". Given that this is a legal document, I expect that "sd" is an abbreviation for "said", which make more sense. IMO as a general rule one shouldn't farnarkle around with quotations from historical documents, don't expand abbreviations or correct spelling, lest one change the meaning. Esperanto etc[]

Thanks for the note. We can do with typo-spotters as much as any wiki can - though I'm sure you'll heed Thurstan's caution. I have been around longer than you have, and I suspect that he has too. He's certainly an expert on nearly everything here.

I see that your user page is blank. You'd be most welcome to write it in Esperanto and put it in Category:Pages in Esperanto. And I hope we have some of your ancestry here; if not, there's no time like the present!

What an appropriate city for a Mensa member!!!

Formatting[]

I notice you adding line spaces above headings. It can make editing easier (apart from the additional scrolling that may result), but going from zero to one space makes no difference to the page display; for a bigger displayed space, you need two line spaces.

Keep up the good work! -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 06:16, April 23, 2017 (UTC)

Wing and Munsil[]

How are you related to Lee Elverton Munsil (1911-1996) as seen on http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=mewingnut&id=I93781&style=TEXT ? -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:47, August 13, 2017 (UTC)

Hi Bill (Eoy Guy) - thanks for correcting all my spelling errors! My time on the site is sporadic these days, so nice to see someone helping out. Regards Kim (Eramophla)
