Uchtred MacDowall, 10th of Garthland was born circa 1546 in Galloway, Scotland to John MacDowall, 9th of Garthland (1507-1547) and Margaret Campbell (-1537) and died 1593 France of unspecified causes. He married Margaret Kennedy (1560-1578) .
Uchtred was involved in a feud with Lochinvar following murder of Gilbert Macdowall of Barjarg. On February 29, 1547/48 he had a fresh charter from King James VI of the Baronies of Garthland and Corswallas which was retoured. On August 19, 1584 he took part in the Raid of Ruthven in which the Earl of Gowrie seized King James VI at Stirling and was called to trial but had his summons deleted by the King's warrant.
