Thomas Rice was born January 1626 in Stanstead, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom to Edmund Rice (1594-1663) and Thomasine Frost (1600-1654) and died 16 November 1681 Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States of unspecified causes. He married Mary King (1629-1714) 1652 in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States.

Biography[]

Thomas Rice resided at both Sudbury MA and Marlboro MA. He was the last of the 13 signers on the 1657 petition for the creation of Marlboro. Thomas was a proprietor at Marlboro and died there 16 Nov 1681.

Boston Gazette Article[]

The 26 Dec 1768 issue of The Boston Gazette, contains a article on the subject of the longevity of his children, in which it was said he died "at the age of 70 years" consequently born about 1611. That his age was 70 years is manifestly an error, as it makes him only 17 years younger than his father, and about 43 years old before he had a family.

The Will of Thomas Rice[]

The Will of Thomas Rice, recorded 11 Nov 1681 and proved 04 Apr 1682, gave to sons Thomas, Peter, Nathaniel and Ephraim, residue to wife Mary, and at her decease to go to "the younger children not mentioned above." "My three brothers, Henry and Mathew Rice and Pter King to be overseers of my will," etc.

The Will of his widow Mary, record on "May 10, in the 8th Year of Queen Ann's reign (1710)", proved 11 Apr 1715, gave to sons THomas of Marlboro, Peter, Nathaniel, Ephraim, Gershom, James, Jonas and Elisha and to daughers Mary White, Sarah Adams, Frances Allen and Grace Moore.

Married to Mary King (1629-1714), they resided in both Sudbury MA and Marlboro MA. The births of six children are recorded at Sudbury and the younger ones at Marlboro.
