Sven Johan Kardell (1842-1923) was a Swedish high school teacher, author and politician (b. January 30, 1842 in Avesta - d. January 6, 1923 in Östersund).

Sven Kardell, who was the son of an accountant, became in 1866 a PhD at Uppsala University with a dissertation on Hesiod and was a lecturer in history and Latin at higher general secondary school in Östersund 1868-1907. Between 1876 and 1921 he was librarian at it by himself arranged and cataloged Jämtland's library, and he was very active in Jämtland County monument association. He was also a member of City Council and the County Council of Jämtland.
He was an MP in the Lower House 1888-1901 for Östersund and Hudiksvalls constituency. By 1889 the parliament, he joined the second chamber center, but turned to the Liberal Party when that party was formed in 1895 and followed with the Liberal Conservative Party when the Liberals were in this party 1900th In Parliament he was a member of the Legal Affairs Committee in 1894-1895. He became involved especially in school matters, but also for reduction in tariffs and abolition of the death penalty.
