Supaul district (Hindi: सुपौल जिला) is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state, India, and Supaul town is the administrative headquarters of this district. This district occupies an area of 2,410 km2 (931 sq mi). The district was carved out from the erstwhile Saharsa district on 14 March 1991.
Geography[]
Supaul district occupies an area of 2,425 square kilometres (936 sq mi),[2] comparatively equivalent to Antarctica's Anvers Island.[3]
Supaul district is bounded by Nepal to the north, Araria district to the east, Madhepura and Saharsa districts to the south and Madhubani district to the west.
Supaul district is a part of Kosi division.
The Koshi River flows through this district, which is regularly affected by the flood caused by this river.It is home district of designer Govind Kumar Singh .[4]
Progressive villages[]
The village of Balua Bazar is the most advanced Village in the district. There have been several notable personalities from this village both in politics and administration. Sri Lalit Narayan Mishra, Dr. Jaganath Mishra have excelled in political arena of the nation. Another prominent figure from the village is Sri Manish Mishra, being a law graduate from Banaras Hindu University, is presently a General Manager in the Govt. of India organisation. The district also consists two progressive villages of Karnpur,'Solhani and Sukhpur. Karnpur is a ideal village with 90% concrete houses. 95% of population has access to clean toilets and drinking water. Janmastmi festival of Karnpur is famous for its glitz and glitter. Saraswati Pooja (Basant Panchami) is celebrated with great zeal in Solhani village. There is a big Badgad tree nearby School which is very old and attracts the passers in Solhani. The Gram Pnachyat comprises two villages which is known as Solhani -Sukhpur Gram Panchayat. In accordance with Maithil Panchkar (record keeper)the primodial native of this village is Bramhan known as "Tanah Puriye, Solhani" that's why the name of the village is known as "Solhani". Maithli is the main language. barail-baruari is another progressive village of the district. barail is well connected to the district headquarter. barail is an ideal village as it has got concrete roads, good hospitals, convent schools etc. durga pooja festival of barail is famous for its fair and it is celebrated with great enthusiasm in barail village. rajpoots are the main native of this village. and this village is one of the five villages known for the dominance of rajpoots in bihar. and thus known as one among the panchmahals.Parsarma village is also a well known village of koshi region.Natives of this village is mainly GANWARIYA RAJPUT.Besides it other caste & community also staying here with harmony.Parsarma is the birth place of great sant SHRI LAKHAMINATH GOSAI.There is a kuti of sant . Ekma is near the supaul district 8 km . Basbitty village is also 6 km from Supaul Town. This is very good village.Durga puja & janmashtami is very famous in the village.( RAGHVENDRA SINGH FROM DELHI).
Chaitmani Madhya Vidyalay and Chaitmani Uchchya idyalay (Middle School and high school) of Sukhpur are two famous schools of Sukhpur-Solhani Panchayat. These two schools cater to the students of the surrounding vaillages like, Sukhpur, Solhani, Balha,Parsarma, Karanpur, Basbitti,Kattaiya etc..90% of the your who are doing well all over India and abroad are proud products of these two schools only. Teachers of these schools have left their marks on the students for a long period of time. There have been teachers in these schools who taught 2-3 generations of people in the vicinity i.e taugh grand father, father and also the son...I would like to mention some memorable teachers who have had their imprints on students, Middle School-Radha Babu,Ganapati babu,Sahab Uddin, Pospait Thakurji, viday babu etc; High school - BSC Mater sahab, Subhankar Tahur ji, Panditji, Bibha Didi, Mahender Babu, Bachi Babu,Maulabi Sahab etc..were memorable teachers. High school also had a hostel in the school compund where studetns of nearby villages woluld stay and study.
Then there is this great ground of high school where cricket matches and atheletics are held..yungusters also plays vollyball in the evening..(Mithilesh Mishra-Solhani)
Economy[]
Agriculture is the major occupation of this district and paddy is the main crop.
In 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Supaul one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640).[5] It is one of the 36 districts in Bihar currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).[5]
Divisions[]
The district comprises 4 sub-divisions: Supaul, Birpur, Triveniganj and Nirmali. Supaul sub-division consists 4 blocks: Supaul, Kishanpur, Saraigadh-Bhaptiyahi and Pipra. Birpur sub-division is further divided into 3 blocks: Basantpur, Raghopur and Pratapganj. Triveniganj sub-division has 2 blocks: Triveniganj and Chhatapur. Nirmali sub-division comprises 2 blocks: Nirmali and Maruna.
Demographics[]
According to the 2011 census Supaul district has a population of 2,228,397,[6] roughly equal to the nation of Latvia[7] or the US state of New Mexico.[8] This gives it a ranking of 204th in India (out of a total of 640).[6] The district has a population density of 919 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,380 /sq mi) .[6] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 28.62 %.[6] Supaul has a sex ratio of 925 females for every 1000 males,[6] and a literacy rate of 59.65 %.[6]
Culture[]
The well-known historical and religious place - the Durga Sthan lies in Supaul district and it is only 10 km (6 mi) away from the district headquarters.
