Simon Ray, Jr. was born 9 April 1672 in New Shoreham, Newport County, Rhode Island, Kingdom of England to Simon Ray (1638-1737) and Mary Thomas (1642-1737) and died 9 March 1755 New Shoreham, Washington County, Rhode Island, Kingdom of Great Britain of unspecified causes. He married Judith Manwaring (1676-1706) 17 January 1694 in New Shoreham, Newport County, Rhode Island. He married Deborah Greene (1690-1763) 27 October 1725 in New Shoreham, Newport County, Rhode Island.
As a young man, Samuel Ward (1725-1776) (future governor of Rhode Island married Anna Ray (1728-1770), the daughter of a well-to-do farmer (Simon Ray, Jr.) on Block Island, from whom the couple received land in Westerly, Rhode Island, and they settled there as farmers.
