Sarah Lawrence Smith Kimball (1826-)

Biography Edit

First a polygamous wife to Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith. After his death, she married on 12 October 1844 to Heber C Kimball, LDS missionary, pioneer and apostle. After arrival in Salt Lake Valley, she continued on to California where she was granted a Divorce on 18 June 1851 from Mr Kimball.

Traveled West with the Edward Hunter Wagon Company of 1850. (Departure: 29 June 1850 - Arrival: 13 October 1850). 261 individuals and 67 wagons were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Kanesville, Iowa (present day Council Bluffs). This company was organized at 12-mile creek near the Missouri River. It was the first Perpetual Emigrating Fund Company.

  1. Some sources have combined her record with that of her sister Maria Lawrence who was a polygamous wife married to Brigham Young and died in 1847 in Illinois.
