In 1848 they decided to emigrate to America. Sarah emigrated to America with several children in 1849 on the Hendrik Hudson, the journey took 6 weeks. The ship left London in April 1849 and arrived in New York on the 7th June 1849. Her husband had sailed several months before. They were never to return to England.
Sarah Alexander and her family lived in Manhattan in 1860 then New Jersey. Sarah left a will in 1873 and died in 1874. Her death was noted in the New York Herald.
