Samuel Naseby Davison was born 28 October 1838 in Decatur County, Indiana, United States to William Davison (1807-1893) and Clarissa Sithens (1809-1892) and died 24 May 1916 Clinton County, Indiana, United States of unspecified causes. He married Lucinda S Dilmon (1842-) 11 August 1860 .

Samuel Davison enlisted September 11, 1862, in Company A Twentieth Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He served in Virginia and Maryland, and fought in the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. He lost an eye at Chancellorsville. After his discharge on May 11, 1864, he became a cooper in Jefferson, Indiana. In 1869 he purchased the hotel formerly owned by his father and operasted it successfully until 1872, when he sold it and began a merchantile business. Later he bought and sold staves and other cooperage materials. He was the postmaster of Jefferson, Indiana, for 31 years. He was a Republican. For years he was a member of the United Brethren Church, but later joined the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic at Frankfort, Indiana.
