Radu P. Voinea (May 24, 1923, Craiova, Dolj – May 11, 2010, Bucharest [1]) was a Romanian engineer, university professor, member and former president of the Romanian Academy. Among other political functions, he was a member of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party [2] Radu Voinea a fost deputat în Marea Adunare Națională în sesiunile din perioada 1975 - 1989.[3] Radu Voinea was a member of the Great National Assembly during the sessions from 1975 to 1989. [3] As part of his work in the Grand National Assembly in the 1985-1989 session, Radu Voinea was a member of the Committee on Defence Affairs and the Committee on Foreign Policy and International Economic Cooperation. [4]

Studies[edit | edit source]

He attended the "Petrache Trișcu" primary school in Craiova from 1929 to 1933, then to the "Frații Buzeşti National College]] in Craiova from 1933 to 1941. Between 1941 and 1946 he attended the construction department of the Politehnica University of Bucharest, obtaining in 1946 his diploma as a civil engineer.

Scientific titles[edit | edit source]

In 1949 he supported his doctoral thesis entitled "Contributions to the study of elastic stability of indeterminate static systems"". He obtained the scientific title of doctor of engineering with distinction magna cum laude, which was equated in 1963 by the Ministry of Education with the title of doctor docent.

In 1963 he was elected a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy and in 1974 a full member. He was founding member and President of the Technical Sciences Academy of Romania

Management activity[edit | edit source]

From 1964 to 1967 he was pro-rector of the Politehnica University of Bucharest, and in 1972-1981 the rector of the institute. From 1967 to 1974 he served as Secretary General of the Romanian Academy in 1984 as President of the Technical Sciences Section of the Academy. From 1984 to 1990 he was president of the Romanian Academy.

Scientfic Research[edit | edit source]

The scientific work is reflected in works that can be grouped as follows: treatises, scientific papers published in volumes, scientific articles published in specialized journals in the country and abroad, communications published in the volumes of international and national scientific events, teaching manuals and collections of problems published in teaching publishing houses in several editions, etc.

In the course of scientific research, problems of theoretical mechanics, mechanism theory, elastic stability and dynamics of motor vehicles and machinery were addressed.
