Nicholas Gilman was born 21 October 1731 in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire to Daniel GIlman (1702-1780) and Mary Lord (1702-1735) and died 1783 of unspecified causes.

Many of his children would serve prominently in the American Revolutionary War and in New Hampshire state government.
