Nestor Filotti was born circa 1814 in Brăila, Brăila County, Romania to Ion Filotti (c1780-c1835) and Nomen nescio and died 1869 Batogu, Brăila County, Romania of unspecified causes. He married Sofia Dulgheru (1825-1889) 1843 in Brăila, Brăila County, Romania.

Biography

Nestor Filotti (cca. 1814 - 1869) was a Romanian landowner. He is considered the patriarch of the Filotti family.

Nestor Filotti was the son of Ion Filotti, a grain merchant ("zaheregiu") in Brăila, Romania. He entered the civil service as licensed clerk. According to the administrative reform implemented under the provisions of the Organic Regulation, public servants had to receive a license ("pitac").

In 1843 Nestor Filotti married Sofia Dulgheru, daughter of Sava Dulgheru, planner of the Brăila city council. Eventually, Nestor Filotti was promoted "Executor of the Chairman of the Brăila City Council" (Îndeplinitor de Prezident al Municipiului Brăila). At the same time, Nestor Filotti secured a patent ("patentă") as lessee he leased several estates from the Eforia Spitalelor Civile. Eventually he purchased the estate of Batogu where he built a manor. Batogu remained the seat of the Filotti family till the expropriation of 1947.

In the management of agricultural production, Nestor Filotti was concerned by the introduction of new technologies for the increase of the productivity. He was among the first landowners use portable steam engines imported from England for threshing. Nestor Filotti died in 1867 in Batogu. He was survived by his wife and 11 children. His wife ensured that the estate was kept intact, the administration being taken over by one of his sons, Anastase Filotti. [1]
