- Prince of House of David
- Ancestor of Jesus Christ
Nathan ben David (He has given). Son of David and Bathsheba (2 Sam. 5:14; 1 Chr. 3:5; 14:4; Zech. 12:12; Luke 3:31). Nathan was born approximately in the year 1015 B.C., probably somewhere in the Kingdom of Judah (Land of Canaan). Ancestors are from Land of Canaan.
Not to be confused with The prophet of the same name that forbids David to build a temple (2 Sam. 7; 1 Chr. 17:1–15); rebukes him about Bathsheba (2 Sam. 12; Ps. 51 heading); anoints Solomon (1 Kgs. 1:38–39, 45; see also 2 Chr. 9:29; 29:25; D&C 132:39).
Nathan (Hebrew: נתן, Modern Natan, Tiberian Nāṯān) was the third of four sons born to King David and Bathsheba in Jerusalem. He was a younger brother of Shammuah (sometimes referred to as Shammua or Shimea), Shobab, and an older brother of Solomon. Although Nathan is the third son raised by David and Bathsheba, he is the fourth born to Bathsheba. The first died before he could be named.
Nathan was the first child of Bathsheba that she was given the right to name. Her first child died as an infant before being given a name, and Shammuah and Shobab were given names by David and Nathan the prophet. It is thought that she chose the name Nathan in honour of Nathan the prophet, her counselor.
Children of King David
"and these were the children born to him there: Shammua,[a] Shobab, Nathan and Solomon. These four were by Bathsheba[b] daughter of Ammiel." (source: 1st Chronicles 3:5)
And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David. And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia, And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet. Parentage of Jesus
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ descends from the Davidic line through Nathan, who is an otherwise little-known son of David, mentioned briefly in the Old Testament.
Source: The Parental lineage as described in the New Testament Gospel of Luke tracing' Christ's ancestry via his mother Mary (mother of Jesus) back to the first man, Adam (4004 BC-3074 BC).
