Biography

Nathan Hyde was born 1767 in Oxford, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States to Abijah Hyde (1732-1801) and Mary Holbrook (1738-1822) and died 17 July 1822 Oxford, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States of unspecified causes. He married Sally Thorpe (1770-1812) 1778 in New Haven County, Connecticut.

Birthdate is calculated from death date and age as stated would be 1766 or 1767, but family records from his grandson indicate 1767. Nathan was a bootmaker, and moved from Oxford to what was known as Canaan at that time. Canaan was a center for shoemakers. He was working with his men in the field and drowned in the Housatonic River. His body was not found until a week later. He was buried on the family homestead in Oxford occupied by his eldest son, Abijah.
