Biography[]

Daughter of Stephen Winchester Sr. of Vershire, Vermont, who was a member of the Danite militia and the Quorum of the Seventy, and his wife Nancy Case of Argyle, N.Y.

Purportedly first married to Joseph Smith (1805-1844), the Mormon Prophet in 1844 at age 16. Researchers Anderson and Faulring write that this claim is based on "unsupported information".

Married to LDS Pioneer, Missionary and Apostle, Heber C Kimball on 10 October 1844, but no children. Separated in 1865 and then married Amos Arnold to whom she bore one child.

Nancy traveled across the plains to Utah with her parent's family in 1849. Both her and her mother went under the name of Nancy Winchester with the Howard Egen Wagon Company of 1849. Departure: 18 April 1849 Arrival: 7 August 1849. 57 individuals and 22 wagons were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Pottawattamie Co., Iowa.
