Murom Rayon (Russian: Му́ромский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] rayon, one of the sixteen in Vladimir Oblast, Russia. It is located in the east of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,050 square kilometers (410 sq mi).[6] Its administrative center is the city of Murom[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[3] Population: 24,991 (2010 Census);[7] 26,382 (2002 Census);[10] 29,975 (1989 Census).[11]
Administrative and municipal status[]
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Murom Rayon is one of the sixteen in the oblast.[1] The city of Murom serves as its administrative center,[2] despite being incorporated separately[3] as an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1]
As a municipal division, the territory of the district is split between two municipal formations—Murom Urban Okrug,[5] to which nine of the administrative district's rural localities belong,[12] and Muromsky Municipal District, which covers the rest of the administrative district's territory.[13]
