In 1277 he took part in the campaign of Khan Mengu-Timur on the Caucasian jars , and in July of the following year he married the younger daughter of the Prince of Yaroslavl Fyodor Rostislavich, in the capital city of which the wedding took place with a large gathering of princes and boyars. In early October 1279, he went with his father-in-law to help the Tatars who fought in Bulgaria with the impostor Lakhan, who pretended to be God's envoy, who had come for liberation from the Mongol yoke.

Having inherited the Principality of Beloozero after the death of his father, Prince Mikhail stayed there for a very short time, since his cousin, Dmitri Borisovich, took advantage of Mikhail’s underage, took away his inheritance "with sin and great wickedness" in 1279. Expelled from the inheritance, Prince Mikhail wandered around in an unknown place and only in 1286 , while Principality of Rostov was shared by Dmitri and Konstantin Borisovich, he was again granted the rule of the Principality of Beloozero.

He died in the Horde during the summer of that year, and was buried in the Dormition Cathedral, Rostov.
