LifeLine

Michael’s parents Roland and Violet lived in Louth, Lincolnshire where Mike was born (28/04/1933)

Roland, Michaels father served in the merchant navy prior to and through out World War 2. Michael went to boarding school, De Aston School, Willingham Road, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, LN8 3RF. De Aston School School

Following this, Michael completed a BA at Durham University where he read geography, arts and history.

Michael spent 2 years in the 1950s in national service. He was in the army and spent some of his service in Germany as a Sergeant. His posting included teaching.

Following National service, Michael became a college lecturer in Scunthorpe. He attended a garden party and there he met his wife, Janet. They were married in 1959. Thier first house was at 11, Wynmoor Road, Scunthorpe. The family then moved to Leeds where Michael worked as an Examination administration.

In 1971, Michael was appointed as Secretary to the CSE board based in Birmingham. This initiated a move to Tamworth to a new house at 16 Athelstan Way, Coton Green, Tamworth, Staffs. B79 8LB.

Michael was a keen and knowledgeable gardener and enjoyed designing and developing the family garden. His main hobby was the card game bridge, he was a highly skilled player. He achieved the rank of Premier Grand Master status; in fact he was listed in the top 50 of all time top scorers in the UK at his death.

Sadly fifteen years before his death, Michael developed a form of leukaemia. The treatment that he had for this sapped his strength but he continued to play the games he loved and he also continued with his studies, attending many college courses including literature, medieval and local history.
