Mary was born September 8, 1802 in Harrison County, Ohio, to parents Nicholas Wheeler (1774-1839) and Drucilla ?. As such, Mary was one of the first children to be born in the county, which was then largely undeveloped forest.

On November 30, 1817, Mary married Thomas McCoy Everhart (c1799-aft1832) in Harrison County, Ohio.
