- Carol Gauger tells the following: "Jewell Rippel's father and my grandmother were brother and sister. She was a beautiful woman, and had an unusually deep and pleasing speaking voice. Her birth name was May, but she changed it to Jewell (her mother's name was Julia). I think she changed it around 1930 or so. She worked as a secretary at Colgate Palmolive Company for many years. She and her brother, Peter, were born in New Jersey. Her parents were Ripple and Julia Devine, both born in New York. Her grandparents were Peter Adam Rippel and Wilhelmina Caroline Hess, both born in Germany. They all came to the US in the 1850's. Jewell is buried in the Ensko family plot in Hackensack Cemetery, New Jersey, and the Funeral Home was the Conway Funeral Home in Jackson Heights, New York. Others in the family plot were Charles E. Ensko, Sr., Eloise, Sophie, William A. Ensko and Ethel M. Ensko."
