Obituary
Mrs. Mary Cable, of Port Lincoln, died in her 86th year. She was born in Ballaulochir, County Mullingah, Ireland, and in 1849 sailed in the ship Unehanter [sic] direct to Port Lincoln. Three years later she was married to Mr. Thomas Spalding by Archdeacon Hale. The ceremony took place in the Courthouse, there being no church building at that time. Five years later she was left a widow with three children. In 1890 she was married to Mr. Cable by the Rev. Mr. Hammond in St. Thomas' Church. Mr. Cable had been a sailor, but gave up that occupation and went to Lake Hamilton in the employ of Mr. Price Maurice. In 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Cable went farming at Mount Dutton, where in 1881 Mrs. Cable was again left a widow. She carried on the farm until February, 1913, when she retired to Port Lincoln. Throughout her long life she enjoyed exceedingly good health, and it was only in the last few weeks that sickness overcame her. She left two sons, three grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren.
