Mary Barker was born 1818 in Moneymore, County Londonderry, Ireland and died April 1866 Willoughby, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. She married James Reid (1816-1876) 2 June 1839 in Lyssan, County Tyrone, Ireland.
James Reid, 22, and his pregnant wife embarked upon the Lord Western in which sailed on 24 June 1840 from London via Portsmouth for the Colony of New South Wales. Mary was in an advanced state of her pregnancy. Their first child was born, a daughter who they named Sarah Ann, on 11 August 1840 as their ship was rounding the Cape of Good Hope. They arrived in Port Jackson (Sydney) on 3 October 1840.
