Biography
atsey (Martha) Belsher is stolen from an emigrant camp headed to Missouri:
"‘It is related that Absalom P. Free stole a girl, Patsey Belsher, from a camp of emigrants on their way to Missouri, and married her. They were married May 1st, 1818. The second marriage in the vicinity."
Source: 1881 History of St Clair Co., Ill pp 367-8
Mary Belcher MR5B-VT7 married Jacob Whoberry in St. Clair Co., Illinois the next day. It is supposed that Martha/Patsy and Mary are sisters.
Family records indicate that Martha was born in Caldwell County Kentucky (which was actually Livingston Country at the time) or Burke County, NOrth Carolina. John M Belcher and Sarah Lockhart apparently had a daughter in 1802 in Russell VA which is about an hour from Burke VA. Perhaps this is Martha's birth place?
