Marian Martin was born circa 1820 in London, England to George Martin (1778-1842) and Mary Brett (1796-1873) and died 12 November 1884 Strawberry Hills, New South Wales, Australia of Brights disease.


Marion Martin was the eldest survining child of Capt. George Martin (1778-1842) and Mary Brett (1795-1873). She was born c1820 in London and died at the age of 64 on 12 November 1884 in Strawberry Hills, Sydney, NSW, Australia of Brights disease.

It is known that Marian was born in London from a letter that her father wrote to her mother dated 29 October 1836. In this letter her father instructed for her mother, then in London, to bring out to the Colony of South Australia with her their marriage certificate and "the births of Marian & [baby] Thomas". These were the 3 events that for this family had occurred in London. Marian's other siblings were born in Rio de Janeiro, Valparaiso in Chile, Hobart and Sydney.

Marion's father George Martin was ship's captain. He had married her mother in 1817. By 1835 her mother had given birth to 11 children in places including London, Rio de Janeiro, Valparaiso in Chile, Hobart, and Sydney. He died in Adelaide, South Australia.

Marian had first married George James Andrews (1820-1850) in 1844 in Sydney. She then moved to Adelaide, South Australia with her husband and son George M Andrews (1845-) before 1847 before coming back to NSW after her 1st husband's death on 12 June 1850. Whilst in Adelaide she had 3 children including Henry Martin Andrews (1850-1926) who was born on 18 November 1850 after his father's death.

Marion next married Henry Oliver Steed on 21 July 1856 in St James Anglican Church, Sydney, Australia.
