Karl I. von Hessen-Philippsthal was born 23 September 1682 in Schmalkalden to Philipp von Hessen-Philippsthal (1655-1721) and Katharine Amalie zu Solms-Laubach (1654-1736) and died 8 May 1770 Philippsthal of unspecified causes. He married Karoline Christine von Sachsen-Eisenach (1699-1743) 24 November 1725 in Eisenach.
