Joshua Huntington Wolcott was born 29 August 1804 in Litchfield, Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States to Frederick Wolcott (1767-1837) and Elizabeth Huntington (1774-1812) and died 4 January 1891 Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States of unspecified causes. He married Cornelia Frothingham (1824-1850) 12 November 1844 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States. He married Harriet Frothingham (1813-1899) 12 November 1851 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States.

- He married, second, November 12, 1851, Harriet Frothingham, sister of his first wife.
- Mr. Wolcott came to Boston as a boy, and became an apprentice in the counting house of A. and A. Lawrence. He was made a partner at the age of twenty-six, and was the senior partner when the firm was dissolved in 1865.
- He took a prominent part in the development of New England manufacturing, being president or director in many textile mills, and a director of the Boston and Providence Railroad. He was also a leader in charitable enterprises, and was State Treasurer of the Sanitary Commission during the Civil War. He was a charter member of the Union Club of Boston, and belonged to the Society of the Cincinnati in the right of his grandfather, Major General Oliver Wolcott.
