D was born 24 January 1832 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States to George Choate (1796-1880) and Margaret Manning Hodges (1805-1887) and died 14 May 1917 Manhattan, New York, United States of unspecified causes. He married Caroline Sterling (1837-) 16 October 1861 .

  • John Lee Saltonstall (1878-1959), private secretary to Amb. Choate, who was later a partner in an investment brokerage and was elected to several important political posts in Massachusetts. He also built the elegant Huntwicke (Coolidge Estate) mansion house in Topsfield MA overlooking the Ipswich River. His son, John Jr, was also active in politics.
