Joseph Don Carlos Young was born 6 May 1855 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, United States to Brigham Young (1801-1877) and Emily Dow Partridge (1824-1899) and died 19 October 1938 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, United States of unspecified causes. He married Alice Naomi Dowden (1864-1950) 22 September 1881 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. He married Marian Penelope Hardy (1861-1919) 11 January 1887 in Juarez, Mexico. Joseph Don Carlos Young was an American architect and the Church Architect for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1887 until 1893. In 1893, the office of Church Architect was dissolved (to be reinstated for a time in the mid 20th century), Young thereafter practiced privately with the LDS Church as a frequent client. Young practiced as an architect, landscape architect and designer from 1879 to circa 1935. A preponderance of his work centered on church commissions, or commissions offered him by extended Young family members, or higher echelon church friends.
