John Spofford III was born 24 October 1648 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts to John Spofford (1612-1678) and Elizabeth Scott (1623-1691) and died 24 April 1697 Georgetown, Essex County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Sarah Wheeler (1652-1732) 9 March 1675 in Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts.

He married Sarah Wheeler on 9 Mar 1675 in Rowley, Massachusetts. They lived on the family farm on Spofford's Hill (in what is now Georgetown) that his father had originally leased. They had eight children including a son John.
John appears to have been an industrious and thriving farmer. In his will, made about two months ppriorto his death, in August, 1735, he confirms to his sons, Francis, John, and Abner, deeds of lands,--probably farms which he had already given them,--and makes ample provision for his second wife, Sarah, and "our three little sons" .
John died in Georgetown on April 27, 1696-97 aged 48. He was interred in the old cemetery in Bradford, where his gravestone can be seen.
His widow, Sarah Wheeler, married Caleb Hopkinson (1648-1721), Sr., of Bradford (now Groveland) on June 12, 1701, and died Oct. 24, 1732, aged 80. She was buried in Groveland Cemetery.
