John Pollard was baptised on 1st January 1747 in Madron, Cornwall, England. His parents were Christopher and Mary Pollard (nee Ellis). His siblings were Mary, Christopher and William. John was the eldest son of the family.


John married at aged 23 to Lydia Neckervis, who was 11 years his senior (aged 34), the daughter of Charles Neckervis of St. Just in Penwith. The couple married in St. Just in Penwith on 1st November 1770, and witnesses to the marriage were a James Hoskin and William Rodda. Banns had been recorded for the couple on 18th October. John could not write so signed the marriage record with his mark.

The marriage record recorded John's occupation as tinner. The couple settled in Sancreed, and had three known children there.


John died and was buried on 15th July 1775 in Madron. He died before his last child, Jennifer was born. The same thing would occur for John's great-grandson Henry, some 80 years later.

His wife Lydia would outlive him by 38 years.
