Obituary

Mr. John Bailey, 78, who died at Coff's at the week-end, was a Hawkesbury native who became noted on the Tableland and then at Ulmarra as one of the champion rough riders of his day. He could sit the wildest buckjumper ever saddled, and could also train racehorses. While a resident of Ulmarra he married Miss H. M. Sneesby, and later went on the land down the Bellinger way. For the past 20 years of his life he had been caretaker of Coff's reserve, a job which he had carried out with energy and efficiency. He came into contact with people from every State, and made a number of friendships. He died on Friday last as he was being placed in a car by relatives for removal to the hospital. He is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters.
