John French was born on an unknown date to Thomas French (1584-1639) and Susanna Riddlesdale (1584-1658) .
2. John (1) French, born 1622 in England, was the much younger brother of Thomas (2) French. John (1) married Freedom Kingsley 1654 in Rehoboth, MA. After arriving in America, John and his parents and brothers and sisters lived in Ipswich, MA, Rehoboth, MA, and Northampton, MA. John and his wife Freedom had 9 children. Note that by the time he died in 1697 at the age of 75, he had moved far inland to Northampton, although it seems most of his children didn’t follow him there. One did, however; the son named Thomas (4), who is part of the story of the Deerfield raid of 1704. It isn’t clear where John (1) died; some sources say in Deerfield, MA in 1697, but probably in Northampton.
