John Chester was born 8 January 1749 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, United States to John Chester (1703-1771) and Sarah Noyes (1722-1797) and died 4 November 1809 Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, United States of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Huntington (1757-1834) 25 November 1773 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut, United States.
The Huntington family in America says:
- He was a colonel in the Army of the Revolution, and especially distinguished himself in the battle of Bunker Hill. He was much in public life, and always in highest esteem, both for his signal public service, and for his great personal worth. In all the private relations of the man and friend, he was an example to be copied. As a Christian he was unaffectedly devout, an Israelite, indeed, in whom there was no guile. A compeer with the noblest of our Connecticut worthies of that day of noble names, he was also the humble and beneficent friend of the poor, and the readiest comforter of the sorrowing and afflicted, and in all his generous philanthropy, he found a ready helpmeet in his gifted and accomplished wife. He died November 4, 1809, and his widow July 1, 1834.
