John Burke Norton (1927) died as an infant at 45 days from "extensive cellulitis with malnutrition and cachexia" from when a pin prick from his diaper pin at the hospital became infected. (b. August 16, 1927, Christ Hospital, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, USA - d. September 30, 1927, 2:30 pm, Christ Hospital, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, USA) John died at 45 days old, not counting his last day as a full day. He was 1 month and 14 days old.

Birth[]

He was the son of Thomas Patrick Norton I (1891-1968) and Mary Margaret Burke (1890-1949).

Death[]

The death certificate list the cause of death as "extensive cellulitis with malnutrition and cachexia". The family was living at 603 Garfield Avenue in Jersey City at the time of his birth and death. The baby was 45 days old from birth to death not including the day of death as a full day. The baby was 46 days old if we include the day of death as a full day. That would be 1 month, and 14 days excluding the last partial day, or 1 month, and 15 days if we round off the day of death to a full day.

Memories about John Burke Norton[]

  • Thomas Patrick Norton (1920- ) writes: "My dad never understood why John Burke Norton died, he was a perfect baby coming out of the hospital and he died of blood poisoning when he was just 6 weeks old. The family theory was that they stuck him with a pin when they were changing his diaper at the hospital. I remember touching his hand during the wake that was held in our house."
