On marriage certificate: Denis Breen and Johanna Maher, bachelor and spinster, were married at Goulburn on 12 January 1857. Denis was a farmer and they both resided at Grabben Gullen (near Crookwell, and thank goodness for the net because I couldn't read the first word of that name!) Denis signed with his X mark, and it was witnessed by Stephen (?) Stapleton and Mary Maher her X mark by (probably) Richard Walsh (and another word, unreadable).

On death certificate: Johanna died on 6th September 1899 in Canowindra, and the certificate says widow. She was 63 years and died of: Primary - Pelvic abcess and secondary - Brights disease. She had these conditions for 3 months. Her doctor was John E. Foley LR.CP (?), Gowra and the last time he saw her was on 3rd August 1899. Her father was Timothy Maher, farmer and her mother was Mary Grace. The informant was Dennis Breen, son, Canowindra. The day her death was registered isn't visible, sometime in September 1899 at Canowindra. She was buried on 8th September 1899 in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Canowindra and the undertaker was J. G. Marka. The minister was Rev. P. J. Soran (?) and the witnesses werre William Hill andJohn McGrath. Johanna was born in Thurlous (?) in County Tipperary, Ireland and she was in N.S. Wales for 43 years. She was married in Goulburn, N.S. Wales at 21 years to Denis Breen. her children were Margaret 41 years, Mary 38, Patience 36, Timothy 32, Catherine 30, Denis 28, Johanna 26, Ellen 24, Pierce 21, living and 1 male and 1 female deceased.
