Early Life

Joannes van den Eijkhof was born in Haarlem on 5 December 1808, and christened later that day. His parents were Hendrik van den Eijkhof, a labourer and Helena 'Lena' Brouwer. His maternal grandparents were Johannes Brouwer (c1757-1836) (probably his namesake) and Johanna de Meij (c1756-1824).

Joannes was the second of seven children. His siblings were Catharina Johanna Maria (c1807-1878), Helena (c1811-1853), Huibert (1813-1857), Hermina (1815-1817), Fredrik (1819-1900) and Bartha Maria (1822-1822), who was born after their father died.

Marriage

Joannes married Anna Jacoba Brussé (1812-1888) on 5 November 1834 in Haarlem. Her parents were Jacobus Brussé and Anna Lasschuit. Joannes and Anna were married for thirty-two years and had nine children, including four that died in infancy.

Later Life

Joannes died on 30 June 1867 in Haarlem aged 58. He was survived by four children and Anna, who died in 1888 aged 76.
