William Aris died in 1867; after that Patience worked as a laundress before her death in 1873. Jane's grandmother Ann Usher had died in 1871 aged 95.

The family later lived in a cottage next to the railway in Hampton. Jane passed away in 1895 aged 51, leaving behind her husband and children, the youngest of whom was twelve. Charles remained living with their son Fred in Walton-on-Thames until his death in 1922.
