James registered for the draft on June 05, 1917 while working as a inspector for the Hudson County Mosquito Control office in the Bayonne district. He was living at 28 McAdoo Avenue with his family. He was inducted on May 25, 1918 to Company D in the 348th Infantry of the US Army at Camp Dix, New Jersey. He served till January 25, 1919 when he was honorably discharged from Fort Niagara, New York. He had green eyes and brown hair.
