Jacovce (Hungarian: Jác) is a municipality in the Topoľčany District of the Nitra Region, Slovakia.


History Edit

The present town of Jacovce was merged in 1902 from three different villages [1]From 1907 to 1913 it was officially know under its hungarian hame of Jác. From 1944 to 1949 it was included in the Tovarníky municipality, In 1949 it again became an independent municipality, however from 1976 to 1990 it was included in the Topoľčany municipality, becoming again an independent municipality in 1990.

The three component villages are:

  • Malé Jacovce (Small Jacovce), having the following names in the course of time:
    • 1773 Kiss-Jacz, Klein-Jactzowitz, Male Jaczowicze,
    • 1786 Kisch-Jácz, Male Jazowce,
    • 1808 Kis-Jácz, Malé Jácowce,
    • 1863–1902 Kisjác
  • Veľké Jacovce (Great Jacovce) having the following names in the course of time:
    • 1773 Nagy-Jacz, Gros-Jactzowitz, Welk[é] Jaczowicze,
    • 1786 Nagy-Jácz, Welke Jazowce,
    • 1808 Nagy-Jácz, Welké Jácowce,
    • 1863–1902 Nagyjác
  • Zemianske Jacovce (German Jacovce) having the following names in the course of time:
    • 1773 Nemes-Jacz, N[emesch]-Jactzowitz, Zeman[ské] Jaczowicze,
    • 1786 Németh[!]-Jácz, Zemanske Jazowce,
    • 1808 Nemes-Jácz, Zemánské Jácowce,
    • 1863–1902 Nemesjác
