Jack Patterson was born 23 May 1912 in Oamaru, Waitaki District, Otago, New Zealand to David Livingstone Patterson (1873-1960) and Katharine (Kitty) Robinson (1885-1978) and died circa 2002 New Zealand of unspecified causes. He married Joan Violet Gale (1918-2004) 1945 in London, Greater London, England, United Kingdom.

"Attended Waitaki Boys High. University 1931 -37 and worked in the office of Alva Bartley (with Imi Porsolt, Ray Thorpe & Fred Beckett) during the design of the 1ZB building in Auckland (1939 – 1941) Joined the Navy during war then Architecture Bursary in London 1945 – 46. Worked in the office of F R S Yorke before returning to New Zealand.

"Worked with Jones, Adams & Kingston and Massey, Beatson,Rix-Trot & Carter (project architect on The Pines, University Medical School,etc) but also designed private residences and the St Francis Church in Carlton Gore Rd, Grafton 1963-4) for the Theosophical Society and Liberal Catholic Church.

"Patterson also wrote a detailed history of the Theosophical Society in Auckland, which can be found on their website."

War service

https://www.aucklandmuseum.com/war-memorial/online-cenotaph/record/C121610 has a photo and lists military service, including Service number JX 259177 and says his last rank was Leutenant/Military in the Royal Navy, Combined Operations, HMS COPRA .

Theosophy

Jack's involvement with theosophy included a lengthy affidavit in a court case about charitable status in Australia. The Manor Foundation Ltd. v. Commissioner of Land Tax (N.S.W.)., Supreme Court of New South Wales, 18 October 1983.
