OUR correspondent writes:— Mr. Jabez Buckman, an old identity of [Nambucca Heads], passed away on Tuesday night, at the age of 82.
Mr. Buckman erected the first sawmill on this river, many years ago, on a spot adjacent to the present Government wharf, and the large quantities of timber cut there and the fancy prices paid for it are now matters of history.
The deceased gentleman leaves behind a widow and numerous sons and grandchildren.
The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, the burial service, in the absence of a minister, being read by Mr. Martin.
