Herman L. Amundson, 94, Chetek, Wis., formerly of Dallas, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at Barron Medical Center. He was born Sept. 5, 1907, to John and Anna (Wintrone) Amundson in the Town of Dallas, Barron County, Wis. He married Melva Severson May 10, 1933, and they lived in the rural Dallas area until December, 1948, when they moved into Dallas. He worked at the Butler Shipyards in Superior during WWII and later at Sanna Dairies in Ridgeland. He was employed at the Hotel Leamington at Minneapolis as an Operating Engineer for 17 years before retiring in 1973. He enjoyed his retirement years by fishing and playing his tapes of Gospel and "old time" music. He was a lifelong member of New Scandinavia Lutheran Church, Town of Maple Grove, and had served as an usher and as church treasurer. He was a resident of the Knapp Haven Nursing Home in Chetek since January, 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ramona Amundson-Zobrak; a granddaughter, Lori Amundson; two sons-in-law; one sister; and six brothers. Surviving are his wife, Melva of Chetek; daughters, Maxine (Odin) Huseth of Cameron and Hiny Tierney of St. Paul, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, from the New Scandinavia Lutheran Church, Rev. Ralph Marquardt officiating with interment at the church cemetery. Arrangements with the Mark Rausch Funeral Service, Dallas and Cameron.
