Henry Wheeler was born in 1846 in Chautauqua County, New York to John Wheeler and Julia Ann Love. He lived in Poland, New York most of his early life.

On August 31, 1864, Henry enlisted as a Private in Company C, 9th Cavalry Regiment of New York. Henry fought in the Civil War until his discharge on June 1, 1865 in Winchester, Virginia. Henry returned to Chautauqua County after the war and lived in Ellery.

He married Mary Jeanette Stom after the war, and their daughter, Emma, was born in 1867. They lived in Ellery, New York in the 1870 census where Henry was a farmer.

Mary died in 1875 and Henry remarried Alice B Fisher on Dec 16,1875(one son Henry Case Wheeler-1879-1957)Alice died from complications in child birth. Henry later married Louisa Jane Carpenter(1848-1922) on Dec 7,1879- His daughter Emma went to live with her grandmother, Sarah Pickard Stom, and was living there by 1880. In the 1880 census, Henry was a farmer and was living with his wife, son, and in-laws. Henry died in 1897 in Chautauqua Coutny, New York. He is buried in Myrtle Cemetery in Poland, New York.
