"Common Acronyms", eh? OK, where are the uncommon acronyms and where do we draw the line? Many of the terms here are not acronyms anyway; one such term, "Vita", is used but isn't listed - possibly because it's uncommon except in its clever use on this wiki! POM (an abbreviation for Pomerania in more than one printed genealogical publication) is described as "common" but with the meaning "Place of marriage"; in its context it would be fairly self-explanatory, but I guess there's value in listing some "standard" abbreviations and acronyms for those people who want to follow standards.

As readers are unlikely to look for "acronyms" under "C" in a category listing, I suggest we rename this page "Acronyms" or "Acronyms and abbreviations" then leave the question of commonness to the readers - all of whom will have slightly different ideas. The page can then be substantially expanded, maybe with links to other pages such as "Chapman Code" and other abbreviation lists for places.

Quite right. And there are no acronyms as such currently on this page---might be some in the future so, I'll move the page to "Abbreviations and Acronymns" Bill 23:37, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
